I am able to switch from the standard 16X camera lens to the 3X super wide-angle lens within seconds to be able to shoot in small spaces with ease. This lens incorporates eighteen of the highest quality, precision crafted optical elements, including low dispersion glass used to compensate for chromatic aberration to deliver extraordinarily sharp images as compared to wide angle lens converters. The XL2 comes with a host of setting adjustments, optical lens, a true 16:9 format mode.

Film/video makers turn to 24p for the "cine" look, simply because of the look of the frame rate. Also just as important as 24p is the XL2's shutter speed of 48 per second, the standard shutter speed that movie cameras use film like texture, tone and expression are now routine with 25p recording and a special cine look mode. Gamma curve controls include knee adjustments to tame white clipping and Black controls bring out or suppress detail in the low brightness areas. Filmmakers, broadcasters, and videographers can now create applications to remotely control all camera functions to meet the needs of individuals and specific industries. By using a FireWire connection, users are able to control all of the XL2 camcorder's advanced functions, inside and out.

True color and the finest detail are found in every shot processed by Canon's Megapixel CCD. The CCD works like film when light hits it. It registers an image advanced processing then converts the pixels into digital data creating your video or stills. True the XL2 lacks some features other more expensive cameras have but that's okay. And yes the camera has a very large body and is definately heavier than the Panasonic DVX100, but this is for specific reasons. True it still comes in a series of steps since it isn't the true mechanical motion to be found on interchangeable lenses, but with so much action on stage it was actually possible to disguise the changes. The lighting was typical of stage lighting.

Video shot on the XL2 can be gamma corrected to allow for the final usage of the video where it will be shown. The display medium can distort the brightness therefore if the gamma is corrected for the display medium when the video is shot the display will show the correct brightness level. Video quality is excellent in both standard and widescreen formats with a noticeable improvement over its predecessors in poorly lit conditions.

Produce higher quality projects. Progressive scanning mimics a film camera's frame by frame image capture. Shootingin 30p mode offers video with no interlace artifacts.
