Fujitsu Lifebook U810 Stands Out From Its Competitors.

The Fujitsu Lifebook U810 is one of the first mini notebook computers powered by Windows Vista, that can be used as a tablet PC as well. The very lightweight Fujitsu LifeBook U810 is what Fujitsu hopes will be the handheld that makes business users give up their BlackBerrys. Powered by an Intel A110 processor, this mini laptop has 1GB of RAM, a 40GB hard drive, 5.6-inch Crystal View WSVGA display, 3 megapixel camera for snapping photos and web conferencing, an SD Card reader, pointing device, illuminated keyboard, and a modular bay that can be outfitted with one of several optical drives. If you've been thinking about dipping your toe into the mini laptop waters, the Fujitsu LifeBook U810 is an affordable way to do so, but some may want to wait for the broadband version.

Hopefully Fujitsu will smarten up and include a better processor to power this device. For those looking for a compact, flexible computer solution, this is worth a look, but if you don't mind having something bigger, I'd go for a real tablet PC or ultra-portable laptop. Fujitsu has created for its new dynamic products a wide variety of locks and security measures, such as the BIOS lock, the LifeBook Lock, the Hard Disk Lock, the Anti-Theft Lock and Smartcard Support. It has also a Fingerprint Recognition Technology system, so that only the real owners of the device could access their data.

Fujitsu's LifeBook U810 stands out from its colleagues in at least two ways. For one thing, it's not just a lightwieght PC but a full fledged tablet PC convertible, with a display that swivels and folds to switch between clamshell keyboard and touch screen stylus modes. The primary issue when typing in UMPC mode is that it involves a quite frequent shift in hand position. When holding the unit with both hands, it is more natural to hold it near the center to balance the weight and to reach the mouse pointer and other controls. The display screen is very mobile and besides various user defined positions it can be placed in two standard setups a traditional laptop like view and a setup where the screen covers the entire body of the UMPC. The latter setup is also known as a layout that users may find useful when writing or reading.

Wireless service is not included with notebook PC. Activation, credit approval and 2 year minimum commitment required. Fujitsu's LifeBook U810 an ultra small convertible tablet and laptop is a palm size Windows Vista system whose dimensions are both its strength and its weakness. By trying to stuff in most of the features you would expect in a larger laptop, Fujitsu satisfies consumers suggestions for a convenient, portable Windows Vista system. A dedicated button located above the screen lets you toggle the tablet from the standard layout to an easier to use portrait format. The built-in camera is a great way to stay in touch with business associates also.

There are some operational limitations and design trade offs with the U810 and It's a little sluggish when first booting up and launching the software but I really like the look of the U810 while the price is a $500 difference makes it a better deal.
